چکیده :
Childhood obesity is a significant health issue associated with various metabolic complications, including liver diseases. Previous studies suggest that a low glycemic index diet (LGID) has beneficial effects on insulin resistance and lipid profiles. However, there is still controversy regarding the effect of LGID on visceral fat, body fat distribution, and liver health. This systematic review aims to assess the relationship between LGID and obesity-related liver diseases in children. A search of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases was conducted, yielding a total of 1500 articles, from which 13 studies met the inclusion criteria. The studies were assessed for quality using Cochrane protocols. The results showed that LGID is associated with reduced triglycerides, improved insulin sensitivity, and lower abdominal fat in children with obesity. Moreover, LGID was found to positively influence liver function markers, potentially reducing liver fat accumulation and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Although promising, further research is required to confirm these results.
