Gastric Perforation Due to Inappropriate Heimlich Maneuver Following Foreign Body Ingestion

چکیده :

Background: When a child swallows a foreign object, one of the most critical initial steps is determining the object's location through imaging and clinical assessment, followed by performing the Heimlich maneuver if necessary Result: A 4-year-old child presented to Motahari Hospital Emergency Department with sudden onset coughing and noisy breathing after toy ingestion. Imaging CXR and abdominal radiography) confirmed the foreign body's intragastric position. Despite radiographic evidence, the on-call resident performed the Heimlich maneuver, resulting in gastric perforation. Conclusion: The Heimlich maneuver should only be performed for complete airway obstruction when the child cannot speak or breathe. It is critically important to educate residents and medical students
