چکیده :
Abstract Background and Aim: The rise in obesity and overweight among children and adolescents has become a pressing health concern globally. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of a comprehensive intervention program that combines nutrition education and physical activity in addressing obesity and overweight among students in Kermanshah. Methods: In this clinical trial, 990 students from various schools in Kermanshah were randomly assigned to either an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group participated in a year-long program focused on nutrition education, emphasizing the benefits of low-calorie food choices and increased physical activity within the school environment. In contrast, the control group received general advice to promote healthier lifestyle choices without specific interventions. Data collected before and after the intervention were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods to assess the impact of the program. Results: Post-intervention results indicated a notable reduction in energy intake, carbohydrates, and fats among participants in the intervention group (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a significant decrease in both weight and waist circumference for these students compared to their peers in the control group. Improvements were also observed in physical activity levels, nutritional awareness, and attitudes toward healthy eating among those in the intervention group. Conversely, the control group did not show any meaningful changes in weight, energy intake, physical activity, or nutritional knowledge by the end of the study. Conclusion: The findings suggest that a combined approach of nutrition education and physical activity can effectively contribute to the prevention and management of obesity and overweight in students. This integrated program presents a promising strategy for fostering healthier lifestyles among young individuals.
