چکیده :
Abstract Background and Aims: The root of obesity as a health threat must be sought in childhood and adolescence, because this stage of human life is a critical period for the spread of obesity and overweight, which is associated with the emergence of obesity and non-communicable diseases in adulthood. Childhood obesity can lead to insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and ultimately type 2 diabetes in adulthood. Since the first step in preventing and treating complications of obesity is to identify the factors associated with it in children, the aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors of obesity in children in order to prevent type 2 diabetes in adulthood. Materials and Methods: In this review study, articles that contained one of the words Overweight, Obesity, along with one of the words Children, Child, and Type II Diabetes were searched in ISI, PUBMED, and internal databases. We obtained a total of 256 articles. Then, 20 articles were used for the final review. Results: Some of the most important risk factors for obesity in children that can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes in the future include: 1- Genetic and family factors; 2- Metabolic and hormonal disorders; 3- High birth weight or maternal gestational diabetes; 4- Improper nutrition: excessive consumption of high-calorie foods, fast foods, and sugary drinks; 5- Inactivity and sedentary lifestyle: reduced physical activities such as motor games and exercise, excessive use of electronic devices; 6- Stress can cause emotional overeating and obesity. Conclusion: According to the results, it is recommended to prevent and control childhood obesity by controlling weight through nutritional and medical counseling, creating healthy eating habits from childhood, encouraging children to exercise and be physically active, and reducing the time spent using digital devices. Keywords: Childhood obesity, risk factors, type 2 diabetes
