چکیده :
Background and Aim: Pediatric obesity represents a critical public health challenge, with growing evidence implicating gut microbiome dysbiosis in its pathophysiology. Despite multiple studies, inconsistencies remain regarding specific microbial signatures linked to obesity. This review aimed to understand the relationship between gut microbiome dysbiosis and childhood obesity, focusing on consistent patterns and potential mechanisms. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases until March 2025. Studies investigating gut microbiome composition in obese and non-obese children were included. Keywords used for searching literature were: Gut, Microbiome, Obesity, childhood, Pediatric. Results: Recent studies highlight a strong association between gut microbiota composition and childhood obesity. Metabolites like butyrate and caproate, produced by gut bacteria, may influence metabolic pathways associated with obesity. Dietary interventions, including the use of bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides, have shown potential in modifying gut microbiota diversity, potentially benefiting metabolic health in obese children. Furthermore, probiotics during childhood may positively impact the gut microbiome, enhancing health outcomes in adulthood. Metabolites produced by these bacteria, may influence metabolic processes tied to obesity. While some bacteria like Oscillibacter are being explored for their potential anti-obesity effects, their exact role remains unclear. Changes in bacterial groups like Actinobacteriota and Bacteroidota affect metabolism, promoting fat storage and weight gain. Early diet and probiotic use can influence gut microbiota composition, potentially affecting obesity risk. Conclusion: The strong association between early nutrition and the compositional development of the gut microbiota, both impacting on the individual’s later health, invites the idea of next- generation personalized diets based on individual risk circumstances. Keywords: Gut microbiome; Pediatric; Obesity; Dysbiosis.
