چکیده :
Background and Aim: Childhood obesity is a serious health challenge that increases the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. According to reports from the World Health Organization, it is projected that by 2030, over 250 million children and adolescents will struggle with this issue. The family, as the primary social environment, plays a crucial role in shaping children's dietary habits and lifestyles. This systematic review aims to examine the impact of family on childhood obesity and overweight, providing effective strategies for prevention and management. Methods: In this study, a comprehensive search was conducted using keywords such as "obesity", "overweight", "children", and "family" across various databases, including PubMed/Medline, Springer, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect, as well as national databases like Elmnet, Irandoc, SID, and Magiran. The initial search yielded 306 studies. Inclusion criteria focused on publications from the last five years. Studies lacking full-text access, duplicates, and systematic reviews were excluded. After thorough and critical evaluations, 17 studies were selected for detailed analysis. Results: The studies indicate that families can strengthen healthy habits in their children by increasing the number of appropriately sized meals, participating in healthy food preparation, engaging in joint physical activities, setting limits on screen time, and improving sleep quality. These interventions not only focus on changing children's individual behaviors but also create a supportive environment involving parents, leading to more sustainable changes. Conclusion: In conclusion, childhood obesity and overweight, as complex issues, require comprehensive and targeted interventions where families play a crucial role in management. They can contribute to improving dietary habits and increasing physical activity. However, challenges such as parents' time constraints, economic pressures, and lack of awareness about healthy lifestyles persist. To overcome these challenges, it is recommended that educational and supportive programs be designed for families to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives.
