چکیده :
Background and Aim: Although many trials have revealed the benefits of resveratrol on obesity, the effects of resveratrol supplementation on obesity indices and liver enzymes in individuals with obesity or overweight are inconclusive. This meta-analysis of RCTs aimed to assess the effects of resveratrol supplementation in managing obesity. Methods: A systematic review of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library identified RCTs on resveratrol supplementation on obesity indices and liver enzymes in individuals with obesity or overweight. Data were pooled using a random-effects model to calculate standardized mean differences (SMDs) or mean differences (MDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Five trials with 419 participants were included. Resveratrol supplementation did not significantly reduced BMI (MD = 0.21, 95%CI [- 0.97, 1.39], P = 0.70, I2 = 0 %), ALT (SMD = - 0.03, 95%CI [-0.46, 0.39], P = 0.98, I2 = 0 %), and AST levels (SMD = 0.15, 95%CI [- 0.35, 0.65], P = 0.55, I2 = 0 %). Conclusion: Resveratrol has no significant effects on BMI and liver enzymes. More high-quality and large-scale trials are needed to provide more robust evidence.
