چکیده :
Background and aim: Obesity has emerged as a critical health issue that is increasingly prevalent worldwide. It significantly impacts adolescents' physical and mental well-being, thereby affecting their self-esteem. To address this, educational interventions are essential for altering attitudes and enhancing self-esteem, particularly among female adolescents. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of group training based on the Bakroid method in improving eating attitudes and increasing self-esteem in obese adolescents. Materials and Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test/post-test framework. A total of 100 adolescents visiting a health clinic in central Iran were selected through purposive sampling and subsequently assigned randomly to two groups of 50 (experimental and control). The experimental group participated in therapeutic interventions based on the Bakroid method, which consisted of 10 two-hour sessions held twice a week. Data collection included measurements of body mass index (BMI), demographic information, eating attitude questionnaires, and self-esteem questionnaires, administered before, immediately after, and one month following the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS-20 software. Results: The findings revealed that the educational program based on the Bakroid method resulted in a significant reduction in BMI and improvements in eating behaviors and self-esteem among the adolescent girls in the experimental group over time (p=0.001). Additionally, a statistically significant difference was found between the two groups regarding the reduction in BMI and enhancements in eating attitudes and self-esteem (p=0.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the Bakroid approach effectively improves attitudes and boosts self-esteem in obese adolescent girls. This method can serve as a valuable educational strategy for school health teachers. Keywords Obesity, adolescent attitude, self-esteem, Bakroid approach
