چکیده :
Background: Hair ingestion in children typically occurs due to a psychological disorder, manifesting as hair-pulling and subsequent swallowing, which leads to gastrointestinal pain and significant patient discomfort. Results: A 15-year-old girl presented with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and severe, intractable abdominal pain. The patient had experienced weight loss, appetite changes, and signs of gastrointestinal distress. Physical examination revealed a large, immobile abdominal mass. Imaging identified a large, heterogeneous mass in the stomach. During surgery, a trichobezoar (hairball) was removed from the patient’s stomach. Psychiatric consultation was requested, and evaluation revealed a history of untreated hair ingestion. Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of assessing gastrointestinal patients for underlying psychological disorders. Successful treatment requires both surgical intervention and psychiatric care to prevent recurrence.
