چکیده :
Background and Aim: Childhood obesity is recognized as a global public health crisis and is associated with an increased risk of metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. In this context, vitamin D deficiency has been proposed as a risk factor for obesity and metabolic disorders. Researchers indicate that obesity in children increases the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency by 37%. Accordingly, Vitamin D not only helps in regulating calcium metabolism but also plays a significant role in the regulation of fat and glucose metabolism. This study aims to examine the impact of vitamin D supplementation on the prevention of obesity and the improvement of metabolic performance in children. Methods: A comprehensive search for articles was conducted through the PubMed and Google Scholar databases up to 2025 using the keywords "childhood obesity" and "Vitamin D". Among the 57 articles found, 21 related articles were selected. Results: Research indicates that vitamin D supplementation can lead to a significant improvement in the levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in obese children. Winzenberg claimed that the effect of vitamin D supplements is more pronounced in children with vitamin D deficiency, although the impact is minimal. However, its effect on weight reduction and body composition changes compared to placebo groups has not been significantly meaningful. Nevertheless, few studies have shown that higher doses of vitamin D (over 4000 IU per day) may help improve insulin resistance and reduce fat mass. Conclusion: The results of some studies suggest that vitamin D supplementation can be considered as a complementary strategy in managing obesity and improving the metabolic status of children. However, in other studies, the available data on the efficacy of vitamin supplements during weight loss is inconclusive and is mostly limited to adults. More research is needed in this area to achieve desirable outcomes
