چکیده :
Background and Aim: Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions, posed significant health risks and affected millions of children worldwide. Traditional management strategies often face limitations due to barriers in healthcare access and socio-economic disparities. This study aims to explore the efficacy of telehealth nursing interventions as innovative approaches to enhance childhood obesity management, assessing their impact on health outcomes and accessibility. Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology to synthesize existing research on telehealth nursing interventions in the management of childhood obesity. Systematic searches were performed across PubMed, Springer, Scopus, and ScienceDirect databases from 2015 to 2025, employing keywords such as “childhood obesity,” “telehealth,” “nursing interventions,” and “remote health management.” The PRISMA checklist guided the evaluation of identified articles, and results were analyzed using the inductive content analysis approach proposed by Elo and Kyngäs. Results: Of the 1014 articles screened, 34 met inclusion criteria, comprising 24 qualitative studies, 5 quantitative studies, and 5 reviews. Findings indicated high satisfaction rates among participants utilizing telehealth services, with a family-centered randomized trial revealing 93% parental engagement in coaching interventions. Clinical efficacy was comparable between telehealth and in-person cohorts, with a significant average body weight reduction of 3.5% (p < 0.001) among participants completing the program. Dietary improvements were also noted, with increased consumption of healthier food options. A meta-analysis of 19 randomized controlled trials revealed a pooled mean BMI reduction of -0.31, signifying effective weight management via e-health interventions. Despite challenges such as inadequate telehealth infrastructure and resource availability, there is notable interest in the adoption of telehealth strategies among healthcare providers. Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the effectiveness and acceptability of telehealth interventions in managing childhood obesity, advocating for the integration of these approaches to enhance health outcomes for affected children.
