چکیده :
Background: Constipation in children is a very common problem—perhaps one of the most frequent gastrointestinal issues they face. This condition often arises from an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle and an improper diet. Due to its prevalence, many cases require medical intervention, including hospitalization or enemas, as part of the primary treatment approach. Material and methods: This study was conducted on 76 hospitalized children diagnosed with constipation in the Gastroenterology Department of Motahari Hospital in Urmia. Results : One of the primary treatments for patients hospitalized with chronic constipation is enema administration, performed using non-injectable normal saline and an enema set. A critical aspect of nursing care involves examining the patient’s anus for wounds or redness. In half of the patients, a standard enema set was used for administration. After multiple sessions, anal redness and wounds were observed in these children. In the other half, a feeding tube connected to an enema set was used instead. Following several enema sessions, no anal wounds or redness were observed in this group. Additionally, these patients reported less pain and fear during the procedure. Conclusion : Using a feeding tube connected to an enema set for administering enemas in children not only reduces patient pain but also prevents multiple anal wounds.
