چکیده :
Background and Aim: Postbiotics are non-viable microbial products or metabolic byproducts derived from probiotics. Treatment with postbiotics is emerging as a novel adjunct therapy for managing celiac disease (CD). This review aims to evaluate the effects of postbiotics in treating CD. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science until December 2024 to identify clinical trials and animal studies assessing the effectiveness of postbiotics in the treatment of CD. Results: Postbiotics, particularly those derived from Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and Lactobacillus paracasei, have been studied for their effects on the mTOR pathway in CD. Modulation of the mTOR pathway enhances autophagy, which helps maintain cellular homeostasis and reduce inflammation. Postbiotics are more stable and safer than probiotics because they do not contain live microorganisms, eliminating the risks of infection or microbial translocation. Conclusion: While in vitro studies have demonstrated promising results, in vivo studies are necessary to confirm the efficacy of postbiotics in patients with CD. Further research is needed to explore the potential of postbiotics as a complementary therapy for CD, including investigating different postbiotic strains and their effects on gut health and immune response in CD patients.
